Surrender of Indian Passport

General information

SURRENDER OF INDIAN PASSPORT

A person of Indian origin who has ceased to be an Indian citizen by virtue of Section 8 or Section 9 of the Citizenship Act, 1955 is required to surrender the Indian Passport after acquiring foreign nationality.

The procedure for the surrender of Indian passport is explained in the steps below:

STEP 1: FILLING AND ONLINE SUBMISSION OF THE APPLICATION

1. Fill out the online application for surrender of Indian passport at the link Click here The applicants are required to first register and then login with the registered login ID & Password. In the Applicant Home Page, click on "Surrender of Indian Passport" link to file a new application. The details entered in the application form should match exactly with the details mentioned in the Indian Passport, including signature.

2. Once the application is submitted online, take a print out of the pdf copy of the online filled application and paste one recent color photograph (size 2 inch by 2 inch with white background) in the square box on the first page and attach another photograph with the application. Signature on both pages of the application in the boxes provided should match as per the Indian Passport.

STEP 2: COMPILATION OF REQUIRED DOCUMENTS BEFORE PHYSICAL SUBMISSION

i. Printout of the abovementioned online submitted application with photograph and signature.

ii. Latest original Indian passport for surrender. If the Indian passport is submitted to the German/other foreign authorities, then a copy of the last Indian passport (first and last page containing the biodata) is required. The applicants have to submit a Declaration form (click here), if they have submitted the original passport to German/other foreign authorities however did not obtain any acknowledgement/certificate for submission of the Indian passport to foreign authorities or they have obtained a certificate but the Indian passport number is not mentioned in the certificate.

iii. Copy of City Registration/Address Proof (Meldebescheinigung/Personalausweis).

iv. Copy of Nationality Certificate (Einbuergerungsurkunde/Einbuergerungszusicherung).

v. Copy of German Passport.

Note: Original Indian Passport is mandatory for application with Einbuergerungszusicherung

STEP 3: PHYSICAL SUBMISSION OF THE APPLICATION

The complete application for surrender of Indian passport could be submitted ONLY through Consulate's authorized Outsourced Service Provider (OSP), Alankit Global GmbH (https://www.alankitglobal.com/). Prior appointment is mandatory for in person submission of applications at Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) Frankfurt. A service fee of Euro 4.53 (inclusive of all taxes) per application will be charged by ICAC in addition to the applicable Government of India fees for these services. Applicants opting for postal services are advised to send their applications directly to the Service provider (Alankit Global GmbH) at the below mentioned address:

PROCESSING TIME FOR SURRENDER CERTIFICATE: Minimum 5-7 working days from the date of receipt of application at the Consulate.

NOTE: The Consulate will not be responsible for any applications sent by the applicants directly at the Consulate’s address through post. The applicants can apply for OCI card once they receive the Surrender Certificate.
